‘I suspect that Fantasy Island holds a special place in the minds and memories of elder millennials. It remains firmly entrenched in mine as possibly the pinnacle of fun as a young, annoyingly energetic child. Monumental maze-like structures towering over hordes of tiny screaming people, all on different versions of the same quest of unadulterated adventure and wholesome mayhem. Like Sisyphus, each of us endeavored in climbing the metal stair mountain only to quickly slide down and do it all over again - until Mom said it was time to go. It truly was the best.” Chris Chai

Chris Chai (b.1987) is a muralist, illustrator and artist whose visual practice can be summarised into one essential idea - the exploration of human complexity through continuous repetition of line and form. His work draws from the multitude of organised structures that constantly surround us, from architecture, to biology, social networks and modern and ancient belief systems, in an attempt to examine the relationship between order and chaos and reach an intimate understanding of balance.
