Endgame takes inspiration from Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) interactive gamebooks popular in the 1980s and is an exploration of choice, chance, and world-building. The work is developed together in collaboration with text-generating Artificial Intelligence (AI) models trained on datasets of archival CYOA books.
Through sessions of prompting, editing, and conversations with an AI, a series of ending sequences for a fictional short CYOA game book were generated and then translated into visual imagery through text-to-image generator AI models.
The entire process then becomes an exercise in gacha mechanics: a game of chance.
