‘Party Pooper' is a sci-fi fantasy that captures the hypnotic landscape of party supply shops in Singapore. It is also a homage to the recently closed Khiam Teck at Holland Village, a party supply shop that has been around since the 1940s. A balloon character arrives at a strange cavernous party, filled with melting candle wax and trinkets that come to life in an uncanny, bittersweet spectacle.

Shu, also known as yeowcarrot, is an illustrator based in Singapore who enjoys creating maximalist fantasy scenarios. Inspired by the Neo-psychedelic music scene and the New Weird literary genre, Shu’s illustrations usually contain strange stories that caricature real life. She welcomes viewers to take a closer look.
