Knuckles & Notch seeks to create a connection between the characters and elements, found within four separate films in the Wong Kar Wai universe, through a series of illustrations that narrate their stories in a single frame. We find details we love, piecing them up together to form a harmonious composition. The collaging translates these visually rich film imageries and unspoken feelings in the iconic filmmaker’s films, into modern expressionist and impressionist styles by using strokes that mimic the effect of pencils to emulate a raw and tangible finish. Such an approach expresses the subdued emotions felt in the different films. The series of illustrative collages is a departure from our usual style of clean lines and solid pop colours, exemplifying the versatile and flexible nature of our studio, but whilst still retaining our unique and signature style and approach.
